Women's lingerie
Lace, satin, fishnet: how to choose the right size and fabric, and make the pieces you love last longer.
Start with your size, not your desire
That’s the only thing that really ruins a piece of lingerie. Take two measurements before choosing: your underbust measurement and your hip measurement at the widest point. Many of our sets come in S/M and L/XL sizes rather than French sizes: if in doubt, the larger size will be comfortable where the smaller one might be too tight.
How the Fabric Makes a Difference
Lace is flattering and forgiving: it hugs without squeezing, making it the easiest choice for your first piece. Satin glides over the skin and catches the light, but it reveals everything—opt for a flowing style rather than a form-fitting one. Fishnet and tulle play on what they reveal; they don’t hold up well against fingernails and rings. Faux leather and vinyl hold their shape and don’t wrinkle, but they aren’t breathable: perfect for a night out, less so for a night in.
Making Them Last
Hand-wash in cold water with mild soap—ten minutes is enough. In the washing machine, use a laundry net and the delicate cycle. Never use a dryer: it destroys the spandex, and once a garment loses its shape, it can’t be restored. Dry flat, in the shade, away from the radiator.
